Settings and your profile

Where to change your name and email, light or dark mode, sounds and vibration, and where your child changes their nickname.

You and your child each have a settings screen. Yours is on the Profile tab. Your child’s is under Explore.

Your profile

On the Profile tab, tap Edit Profile to change your Name and Email, or tap your picture at the top to choose a new photo. If you set up the family, you can also change the Family Name, which heads your home screen. Tap Save (a tick on Android). There is no screen for changing your password; use Forgot your password to set a new one.

The Profile tab also has Family and Invite Adult (see Invite another adult), Set Family PIN or Change Family PIN (see Switch to your child, and back), Sign Out and Delete Account (see Delete your account). On Android it has a Notifications button too, which opens the same notification settings as the one inside Settings.

Your settings

On the Profile tab, tap Settings:

  • Subscription. Manage Subscription, with your plan beside it (for example “Free in beta”). See Manage or cancel your subscription.
  • Appearance. System, Light or Dark. System follows the phone’s own setting.
  • Notifications. Which notifications you get. On iPhone and iPad the switches are on this screen; on Android, tap Notification Settings. See Notifications.
  • Sound & Haptics. Sound Effects and Haptic Feedback (the small vibrations when you tap and answer) can each be switched off.
  • About. The app’s Version and Build, which help if you contact us about a problem.
  • Help Centre, Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and Contact Support.

Your child’s settings

Your child taps Explore, then Profile & Settings. It has the same Appearance, Notifications, Sound & Haptics and About sections as yours, and adds:

  • Your Profile. Their Nickname, with Save. Their nickname is how they appear to the family and on leaderboards. To change their picture, they choose an avatar in The Hollow.
  • Account Info. Their email and year level, which only you can change. See Edit or remove a child.

There is no subscription section, because the subscription belongs to the family. Contact Support opens their email app rather than the in-app form.

Things to know

  • Appearance and sound belong to the device, not the person. On a shared phone or tablet, changing them for your child changes them for you too.
  • Equipping a theme in The Hollow can change Appearance. Some themes are made for light or dark mode and switch to it. Your child can change it back in Settings afterwards.
  • Signing out. You sign out from the Profile tab. A child signed in on their own device signs out from the foot of Explore, or on Android from Profile & Settings too. On Android the app asks Sign Out? first, and your child taps Sign Out again to confirm. While you are switched to your child, use Back to Parent to get back to your screens rather than signing out.

Still need help?

Send us a message and a person will reply, usually within a working day or two. In the app, Settings has a Contact Support form that does the same.
