On a device the family shares, you don’t sign out and in. You switch.
Switching to your child
On your home screen, tap Switch to Child on your child’s card. The app becomes theirs straight away, with no PIN needed.
While you are viewing as your child, their screens have no Sign Out button, so they can’t sign the whole family out.
Switching to your own profile
If you learn alongside a child on a weekly plan, your home screen has a Your learning card with a Start learning button. It switches you into your own learning profile the same way, including the PIN set-up the first time, and Back to Parent brings you back.
Getting back to the parent screens
- From your child’s Explore tab, tap Back to Parent.
- On iPhone and iPad, you can also tap your child’s picture at the top of their Nest and choose Back to Parent.
- On Android, you can also tap the settings gear on the Nest, then Back to Parent.
The app asks for your family PIN.
The family PIN
The PIN is four digits, and it is what stops a child switching back into your screens and changing settings.
- Setting it: the first time you tap Switch to Child, the app asks you to set one, then switches. You can also set it beforehand from Profile, then Set Family PIN.
- Changing it: Profile, then Change Family PIN. Enter the new PIN twice and it replaces the old one. You don’t need the old PIN.
- Forgotten it: if you are on your own screens, change it from Profile as above. If you are stuck on your child’s screens, sign in to your own account on another phone or tablet and change it there. Otherwise, contact us from the email address on your account. We can clear the PIN, and the app then asks you to set a new one the next time you switch to a child.
The PIN is shown as dots while you type it and is never read aloud by VoiceOver or TalkBack.
