iOS (iPhone & iPad)

The iPhone and iPad app is in private beta. Join the beta and we'll send you an invite.

  • Requires iOS 15.0 or later
  • Compatible with iPhone and iPad
  • Requires an active internet connection
  • Camera required for Cheeky Check feature
Got a spare iPhone or iPad? Kākā Math needs iOS 15 or later, so devices as old as an iPhone 6s (2015) or an iPad Air 2 will run it. An older device makes a dedicated maths device for your child, with no need to buy anything new.

Android

An Android version of Kākā Math is currently in development. Stay tuned for updates.

Join the Beta

Kākā Math is not in the app stores yet. Sign up for the beta on this site and we'll email you an invite when there's a spot for your family.

Create a Parent Account

Sign up with your email address. As the parent account holder, you'll have access to the dashboard where you can manage your children's accounts and track their progress.

Add Your Children

Add each child with their name and year level. Kākā Math will generate a personalised curriculum automatically based on the NZ Mathematics curriculum for their year.

Start Learning

Your child can log in with their own profile and begin working through lessons immediately. They'll earn Feathers, build streaks, and climb the Altitude as they progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kākā Math covers the full New Zealand Mathematics curriculum from Year 1 through to Year 13 (NCEA Level 3). Each year level has a personalised set of topics and lessons.
Neither app is in the app stores yet. The iPhone and iPad app is in private beta and needs iOS 15.0 or later; an Android app is in development. The parent dashboard can be accessed from any web browser.
Cheeky Check is a feature that lets students snap a photo of their handwritten maths work. The AI analyses their working and provides personalised Socratic hints to help them understand where they went wrong and how to improve, without just giving away the answer.
Up to 5 children on one parent account. Each child gets their own personalised curriculum based on their year level, and their progress is tracked independently.
Feathers are the in-app currency students earn by completing lessons, maintaining streaks, and hitting milestones. They can be traded in The Hollow for avatar costumes, colour themes, or a Wish set by parents. Altitude is a progression system that tracks overall mastery: the Kākā climbs higher as your child works through the curriculum.
No. Kākā Math uses a Socratic approach. It provides progressive hints that guide students towards discovering the answer themselves. This builds genuine understanding and problem-solving skills.
Yes. Kākā Math is built specifically for New Zealand students. Every lesson, question, and learning pathway is aligned to the 2026 NZ Mathematics and Statistics curriculum, covering all six strands: Number, Algebra, Measurement, Geometry, Statistics, and Probability.
Yes. Kākā Math requires an active internet connection to load lessons, use Cheeky Check, access AI-powered hints, and sync your child's progress. A standard home Wi-Fi connection is all you need.

Kākā Math includes three mini-games that make maths practice fun while earning Feathers:

  • Times Table Challenge. Pick which times tables to practise (1-12), then answer endless timed questions with 3 lives. The timer gets faster as you go, and answers can be typed or spoken aloud.
  • Kākā Munchers. Navigate the Kākā across a grid and munch the multiples of a target number across 5 rounds. A stoat enemy appears from round 2, getting faster each round.
  • Connect the Dots. Solve maths questions and tap the correct answer dot to connect them and reveal a mystery shape. Choose from Easy, Medium, or Hard difficulty, and watch out for decoy dots.

All three games award Feathers, with harder settings paying out more.

Yes. Students can trade their Feathers in The Hollow for avatar costumes and colour themes (which also change the app icon). Parents can also set real-world Wishes that children trade their Feathers for, and you choose what is on the list and what it costs.
