As parents, we watched our daughters navigate the world of maths, sometimes with confidence and sometimes with frustration. We saw first-hand how hard it can be to find the right support at the right time. Traditional tutoring was expensive and didn't always fit our schedules. Generic apps from overseas didn't understand the New Zealand curriculum our girls were following.
We built Kākā Math because we wanted something better, first for our own kids and then for every Kiwi family. An app that's patient when they're stuck, encouraging when they succeed, and always aligned to the New Zealand curriculum they're following at school. Something that makes maths feel less like a chore and more like an adventure.
Named after the clever native parrot known for its intelligence and cheeky personality, Kākā Math is our way of giving every New Zealand student a companion on their maths journey: affordable, accessible, and proudly Kiwi made.
Kākā Math is built and run by Molehill Creations, our small product workshop in Wellington.
Our Mission
Too many Kiwi kids struggle with maths, and not for want of ability. What they lack is the right support at the right moment. Traditional tutoring is expensive and inaccessible. Generic apps don't understand our curriculum.
We built Kākā Math to change that: a patient, encouraging tutor that is there whenever your child sits down to work, follows the New Zealand curriculum, and costs one price for the whole family.
Our Socratic approach means we never just give answers. We guide students to discover solutions themselves, building genuine understanding and confidence that lasts far beyond any single maths problem.
Why the Kākā?
The Kākā is a native New Zealand parrot that thrives in our native forests. It's known for its intelligence, playfulness, and distinctive personality. While home is among the trees, the Kākā aspires to climb to the mountain heights where its cousin the Kea soars, the way our students reach for the next thing.
