Feathers, Altitude and streaks

Feathers are earned and spent. Altitude only ever goes up and tracks how far your child has climbed. A streak counts days in a row.

Three numbers sit at the top of your child’s Nest and on their card on your home screen. A higher number is better for all three.

Feathers

Feathers are what your child earns for doing maths and spends in The Hollow.

Earned by How many
A question right on the first try The question’s full reward
Right on the second try Half
Right on the third try A quarter
A question they have already got right before, or a lesson done again A quarter of the usual
Each hint used on a question this time 2 fewer for that question
Finishing a lesson for the first time A lesson bonus
Today’s Daily Forage 10 to 40
A mini-game 1 to 12 a game

Tries and hints count afresh each time a question comes back, in Quick Review, a weekly plan or a lesson done again, and after an hour away from it. After three wrong answers the next answer counts as a first try again.

While a weekly plan is running, today’s practice and the weekend check earn Feathers like any other questions, and the Daily Forage becomes finishing today’s practice (15 Feathers) or doing the weekend check (20).

The rules lean towards trying first and learning new things, so a child who replays easy questions earns slowly and one who works through new lessons earns fast.

Recent Activity, on your child’s page and in their Explore tab, lists the last seven days of rewards: lessons and questions finished, Daily Forage bonuses and mini-games.

Altitude

Altitude is how far your child has climbed through the curriculum. It comes from answering questions and finishing lessons, never from mini-games, and it is never spent, so it only goes up. Questions done again for review add none.

Altitude Level
0 Forest Floor
100 Treetops
300 Mountain Base
600 Summit
1,000 and up Kea Heights

The leaderboard shows each child’s level, and ranks by Altitude by default. See Leaderboards and flocks.

Streak

The streak is how many days in a row your child has done some maths, counted in your local time. A day counts once they get a question right or finish a mini-game. Miss a day and it starts again from one. Your child’s page also shows their Best Streak.
