The Maths Check-In

A short adaptive quiz that shows where your child is strong and suggests which topic to start with.

The Maths Check-In is a short quiz across the strands of the curriculum. It gets harder or easier depending on how your child answers, so it finds where they actually are rather than marking them against a fixed paper.

It is optional and never starts on its own.

Where to find it

  • On your child’s Nest, a card invites them to take a quick quiz until they have done one.
  • Any time, from Explore then Maths Check-In.

Taking it

Up to 20 questions, up to five from each strand. After each answer a short flash over the question says whether it was right, then the next one comes. If a question is beyond them, Too hard? Skip it moves on without fuss, and End Early stops the check-in and marks what has been answered.

The results

  • Your Strengths lists the areas your child did well in. If there were none, the heading reads How You Did instead.
  • Areas to Work On lists the ones to practise. Tapping one opens that topic’s lessons.
  • Start Learning opens the topic the check-in suggests starting with.

From Explore, Maths Check-In keeps past check-ins under Previous Check-Ins. Start New Check-In runs a fresh one, which is useful after a term of practice, and so does Retake Check-In at the bottom of a past result.

A parent can also see a child’s check-in results from the child’s page, under Maths Check-In, on iPhone, iPad and Android. It is read-only, so a parent can look but not start one there.
